Organizational Management

MANAGEMENT ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizational Management is responsible for the identification of the need and opportunity for a project, assessment of project risk, and the approval of the project's feasibility and resources. They are also responsible for establishing the strategic plans and for validating that projects are consistent with customer and organizational requirements. Management provides close oversight for high risk or high cost projects.

General

Provide leadership and resources to establish and improve project managementEnsure that sufficient resources are available to conduct projectsReview and approve commitments to external entities (e.g., customers, vendors)Ensure staff is properly trained in project management techniques and principles

Initiating

Select Project Manager and assist in Project Team staffingReview, validate and approve project charterAuthorize and provide funding

Planning

Verify that project goals and objectives are definedReview and approve Project Management Plan, cost, risk and establish management reservesProvide management oversight as predicated by review of the project risk analysis, risk response planning and Project Management PlanEnable project staff availability

Executing

Regularly conduct executive management reviews and provide oversight

Monitoring/Controlling

Review project status and corrective action plans (if required)Review and approve changes affecting scope, timing, cost, and/or quality, as required

Closing

Validate project completion (goals & objectives)Verify customer and sponsor acceptanceReview and close project accounting/financial filesReview project lessons learned and post project reports for continuous improvement action
